Apple's Smart Home Finally Gets a Screen

Apple's home hub is a new command center built around a square 6-inch display, giving HomeKit controls and Siri a permanent place outside an iPhone or iPad. It is expected in two forms: a tabletop version attached to a speaker base and another designed for wall mounting.

An iMac G4 Shape for the Counter

The tabletop model reportedly uses a half-dome metal base connected to the thin display by an arm, recalling the swiveling iMac G4. A FaceTime camera sits above the screen, while microphones and speakers live in the base. It has no battery or physical power and volume buttons, so it stays plugged in through USB-C.

Photos and Clocks Fill the Quiet Moments

An iCloud-powered Photo Face can cycle through selected collections, memories, or shared albums when the hub is idle. Other faces lean heavily on clocks and slideshows, turning the device into a useful room display instead of leaving a blank panel between commands.

Widgets Change With the Person Nearby

The hub is expected to recognize who approaches and surface that person's preferred widgets. Calendar, Weather, Music, Messages, and Reminders are among the supported apps, although a full App Store is not expected. An A18-class chip and a new home-focused operating system are meant to support Apple Intelligence and the next version of Siri when the device is introduced, reportedly on October 13.
