Apple's First Glasses May Skip the Display

Apple is rumored to be preparing smart glasses focused on cameras, audio, Siri, and iPhone connectivity rather than an augmented-reality screen. That would place the first model closer to today's Ray-Ban Meta glasses than to a wearable version of Vision Pro. A late 2027 launch is reportedly the target, with a possible introduction at WWDC that year and privacy likely to be central to Apple's pitch.

An iPhone Companion Worn on Your Face

Without a display, the glasses could capture photos, handle calls and audio, and use AI to understand what the wearer sees or hears. Integration with the wider Apple ecosystem would be the obvious point of difference, though no feature list, frame design, battery figure, or price is confirmed. More advanced Apple glasses with visual overlays are not expected until 2029 at the earliest.

A Fast-Growing Market With a Privacy Problem

Display-free AI glasses made up 96 percent of worldwide shipments in the first half of 2026, while Meta held roughly 94 percent of the overall category. Apple would enter a market with clear demand and a dominant incumbent. Wearable cameras also bring public unease, and rising semiconductor costs could pressure pricing. The rumored device therefore has two jobs: make hands-free intelligence useful and convince people nearby that an Apple camera on someone's face can be trusted.
