Full VR in a 100-Gram Pair of Glasses

Meta VR Glasses move room-scale virtual reality into frames that weigh about 100 grams, roughly one-fifth of a Quest 3. Magnesium alloy construction and pancake lenses help cut the bulk, while a 5K display and full-color passthrough preserve the visual ambition of a larger headset.

The Computer Lives in a Tethered Puck

Processing, storage and battery sit in a separate wired puck powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite chip. Meta claims up to three hours of high-resolution media playback and supports 45-watt fast charging. Moving that hardware off the face explains how the glasses stay light, though users still have to carry the attached module.

Cinema, Games and a Virtual Desk

The glasses support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos spatial audio and IMAX Enhanced playback. At launch, 75 games will work with hand gestures, while Quest titles can use Touch Plus controllers. A Windows PC or Mac can become a multi-screen workspace controlled by a physical keyboard and mouse or virtual controls placed on a desk.

Lighter Hardware at a Premium Price

Voice, eye tracking and hand gestures all provide ways to navigate, with Meta AI built into the experience. At $1,299, these glasses cost far more than a Quest headset, making their smaller form and media clarity the main reasons to accept the tether.
