Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth

Moomintroll Wakes Before Spring

Moomintroll has emerged from hibernation too early. Winter still covers Moominvalley, his family remains asleep, and Snufkin has yet to return. In Winter's Warmth, he sets out to bring back spring and wake the people he misses. It is a gentle adventure with a lonely beginning, which feels true to the Moomins' habit of putting real emotion inside a comforting world.

Watercolor Snow You Can Walk Through

Norwegian studio Hyper Games, which made Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, has built this second Moomin game around the look of Tove Jansson's art. Painted 2D elements sit alongside simple 3D forms to create a storybook feel, with small references to her characters and drawings tucked into the scenery. The snow is more than a flat backdrop: it deforms as Moomintroll and other things move through it, giving the winter setting a soft physical weight.

The Warmth Inside the Winter

The game includes Too-Ticky, a character Jansson based on her life partner Tuulikki Pietilä, and aims to keep both the kindness and darker emotional notes of the original stories. That balance makes the search for spring more meaningful than simply changing the weather. Winter's Warmth arrives on PlayStation 5 on September 18. For players who liked Melody of Moominvalley's calm pace, this is another visit to the same world from a different character's point of view.
