A Lighter Adios Pro Changes Its Carbon Shape

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 weighs 177 grams in a men's size 9.5, a 12 percent reduction from the Pro 4. Its biggest change sits inside the midsole: an EnergyRim places carbon fiber around the perimeter instead of using the metatarsal-shaped EnergyRods found in earlier Adios Pros. That arrangement leaves more room for Lightstrike Pro foam while keeping carbon where it can add propulsion and stability.

More Energy, a New Upper

Adidas claims a 9 percent increase in energy return. The redesigned LightLock 2.0 upper uses targeted ventilation and support bands, with a reworked heel aimed at better comfort and lockdown. The outsole has also been revised for grip, even though its appearance stays close to the previous model. At the heel, a more pronounced lip exposes a mirrored EnergyRim detail that reads "Adizero."

Super-Shoe Ideas at a Less Extreme Price

The EnergyRim concept comes from shoes such as the limited $500 Pro Evo 3 and ultra-distance Prime X Evo. At $275, the Adios Pro 5 brings that construction into a more accessible race shoe, though it remains premium footwear. It is available now through adidas and specialty running stores. For runners who liked the Pro line but wanted less weight and a cleaner heel fit, this is a substantial revision rather than a new color on the same platform.
