AirPods 5 bring active noise cancellation to Apple's $129 open-ear earbuds as standard. The revised system removes up to 50 percent more outside noise than AirPods 4 with ANC, while a more natural Transparency mode keeps voices and nearby sounds clear when isolation is not the goal.
An all-new multiport acoustic architecture and updated Adaptive EQ shape the sound around each listener's fit. Adaptive Audio can blend cancellation and transparency automatically, and Conversation Awareness lowers playback when the wearer starts speaking. The open design remains intact for people who dislike silicone ear tips.
Paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence iPhone, AirPods 5 support Siri AI and Live Translation. Head gestures can answer or dismiss prompts without touching a stem, making the earbuds a more active extension of the phone while leaving hands free.
The standard model uses a USB-C case, while the $149 version adds wireless charging, on-stem volume controls, and longer battery life. That upgraded pair reaches five hours with ANC or 22 hours including the case, which works with Qi and Apple Watch chargers. Both versions also improve dust, sweat, and water resistance.
