Air Max, Printed From the Ground Up
The Nike AIRMAX 1000.3 turns an Air Max 1-inspired shape into something that could only come from a 3D printer. This third version, developed with Zellerfeld, pairs a Stone-colored printed body with a Burgundy Crush Air unit, letting the cushioning become the shoe's one deep hit of color.
A Lighter Kind of Lattice
Zellerfeld's updated ZellerMESH structure uses an open, breathable pattern that trims material while making the shoe softer, lighter and more flexible along the sides. The midsole has been softened too, giving the visible Air unit more room to compress underfoot. Those changes push the project past the novelty of additive manufacturing and toward the fit and movement expected from a daily sneaker.
Two Ways Into the Drop
Nike is handling the U.S. release through SNKRS, while Zellerfeld is opening a global EQL raffle. That split gives the 1000.3 a wider path to buyers than an experimental shoe might usually receive, even if the unusual construction still makes it feel like a glimpse at how sneakers could be produced differently.
The Prototype Look Is the Point
The ridged surface and visible mesh geometry do not try to imitate stitched panels or conventional knit. They make the manufacturing process part of the design, which is exactly why this muted Stone and Burgundy edition stands out.
