Zoe Thorogood Meets Joe Whiteford

Image Comics' paranormal miniseries is written by Zoe Thorogood, whose work includes It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth, and illustrated by cartoonist and musician Joe Whiteford. Whiteford is also making a companion EP to release alongside the comic. That music is part of the project's identity, not an unrelated extra: readers can approach Luka's unraveling on the page and through a second medium.

Horror With an Unsteady Pulse

Luka's symptoms include bloodlust, a broken reflection, and an aversion to going outside. Thorogood describes the story as dealing with traumatic change and the loneliness that follows, which gives the eccentric store premise a harsher emotional edge. The first issue arrives December 23 and can be preordered through comic shops. It sounds less interested in familiar vampire glamour than in what happens when a person's life stops making sense all at once.
