The i3 Returns as a Proper Electric Sedan

BMW is bringing the i3 name back for a dual-motor sport sedan rather than another compact city car. The first U.S. configuration is the i3 50 xDrive, rated at a combined 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque with all-wheel drive.

Neue Klasse Hardware Underneath

The new i3 uses BMW's sixth-generation electric architecture and an 800-volt system. It can accept up to 400 kW at a compatible DC charger, with BMW estimating nearly 250 miles of range added in ten minutes. A built-in NACS port also opens Tesla Superchargers without a separate adapter.

A Dashboard Built Around Panoramic Vision

Inside, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen is joined by BMW Panoramic Vision at the base of the windshield. An optional 3D head-up display expands that information across the driver's view. The layout is a major break from the cabin design in BMW's current electric sedans.

Reservations Before the Price Tag

U.S. buyers can reserve and configure the car with a deposit before BMW announces final pricing. Expectations currently put the starting figure around $55,000 to $60,000, positioning the i3 against the Tesla Model 3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA EV when deliveries begin in 2027.
