Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part II

Indigenous Horror Comes Back for Blood

Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part is a collection of Indigenous dark fiction edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. It returns to the territory named by Never Whistle at Night, gathering unsettling work under a title that promises escalation rather than a cautious encore.

Two Editors Shape the Darkness

Hawk and Van Alst share editorial credit, placing the collection under the guidance of two Indigenous writers rather than filtering its stories through an outside frame. That authorship matters for horror rooted in communities whose beliefs and experiences have often been treated as exotic material by the genre.

A Timely New Anthology

Book Riot calls the collection “right on time,” but does not identify the contributing writers, individual stories, or specific traditions represented. The cleanest reason to pick it up is the one the source supports: a new volume of Indigenous dark fiction assembled by the editors behind its predecessor.
