Brothers and Sisters turns to what happened after that memoir reached the world. The new autobiographical book follows the strain its publication placed on family relationships and on Westover's own understanding of the past she had put into words.

A Family Disagrees About Memory

The response to Educated was not limited to readers and critics. Westover faced pushback from relatives, including two brothers who had initially supported her account but later denied her version of events. She also had to hire a lawyer in the wake of the book's release. Brothers and Sisters is set to examine how members of one family can hold sharply different accounts of shared experiences, and what it costs to tell a story when people close to you dispute it.

A Different Kind of Follow-Up

This is not a retelling of Westover's path to school and scholarship. The focus is on living beyond the story that made her a public figure, with questions of truth, loyalty, and identity still unsettled inside the family. Brothers and Sisters is due in April 2027, eight years after Educated appeared. Readers who connected with the first memoir have a reason to return, but should expect a book about the aftermath rather than another account of escape.
