Gotham Body Horror That Saves the Monster

DC Studios' Clayface follows Matt Hagen through a transformation built around melting skin, fused eyelids and the loss of his human form. The R-rated movie leans into physical horror, but its final trailer refuses to show the completed creature in full.

Tom Rhys Harries Is Still Hiding His Final Shape

Harries has described the finished design as the result of an enormous practical and creative effort. The footage only offers pieces: a swelling arm, a bulbous hand and the shadow of something rising. Holding the full reveal for the film gives the transformation somewhere to go after audiences have already seen how Hagen begins to change.

Clay Can Swallow More Than a Face

One especially nasty shot shows Hagen suffocating a victim inside his body, with the person's head protruding from his lower back. That image establishes how far this version can push the villain's shape-shifting power beyond impersonation. It also makes the R rating feel connected to the story's central ability rather than added gore.

A Villain Movie With a Larger Future

Clayface is the next theatrical step in the live-action DC Universe before other planned Batman-related projects arrive. The movie can work as Hagen's own horror story first, while leaving his monstrous form ready to collide with a wider group of heroes later.
