Aegon's Conquest will be the first theatrical film set in the Game of Thrones universe. Instead of extending the timeline of the original series, it goes back centuries to the campaign that created the Targaryen dynasty and joined most of Westeros under one ruler.

The War That Forged the Seven Kingdoms

Aegon I's invasion is foundational history in George R.R. Martin's world, but it has mostly lived in backstory, books, and characters' memories. A film can finally place the conqueror, his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys, their dragons, and the resisting kingdoms at the center of the action.

A Political Epic Behind the Dragons

The conquest offers spectacle, but its more interesting tension comes from how a foreign ruling family turns battlefield victories into a lasting monarchy. Beau Willimon, whose work includes House of Cards and Andor, is writing the screenplay, giving the project a writer well suited to power struggles and uneasy alliances.

Owen Harris Takes the Director's Chair

Owen Harris is set to direct the film for its June 6, 2029 release. Casting has not been announced, leaving the faces of Aegon and his sisters as the biggest unanswered part of a story whose ending every Westeros fan already knows.
