Madden

John Madden Before the Video Game Empire

Madden follows the larger-than-life coach through the career shifts that made his name synonymous with football. Nicolas Cage plays Madden, beginning with his run leading the Oakland Raiders under owner Al Davis, played by Christian Bale.

From the Sideline to the Super Bowl

The story includes the Raiders' championship victory in 1977 and the health problems that forced Madden to retire from coaching. That exit becomes the movie's hinge rather than its ending. His plainspoken enthusiasm finds a new home in television, where he reinvents himself as an NFL analyst.

How EA Turned a Coach Into a Franchise

John Mulaney plays Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, whose collaboration with Madden helps build one of gaming's bestselling sports series. The project connects that work to Madden's broadcasting career, showing how his understanding of football moved between the booth and the game bearing his name.

Cage, Bale and a Famous Football Voice

Kathryn Hahn plays Madden's wife Virginia, while Sienna Miller appears as Carol Davis. David O. Russell directs and co-writes the film. The cast has plenty of recognizable transformation on display, but the real draw is seeing how one coach became a television personality and eventually a permanent part of football culture.
