Narnia: The Magician's Nephew

Narnia Begins at the Beginning

Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew takes the series to a place earlier screen adaptations skipped. C. S. Lewis published the book after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but it comes first in Narnia's story chronology and tells of the world's beginnings. That makes it a fresh doorway into a familiar fantasy setting, even for viewers who grew up with the wardrobe.

A First Trip to the Screen

The Magician's Nephew has not been adapted for film before. Netflix has assembled a cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep, with newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell playing the young leads. A newly revealed logo is an early look at how the film will present this version of Narnia, but the choice of story is the more intriguing reveal: Gerwig gets to show how the world comes to be before revisiting its best-known adventure.

A Longer Stay in Theaters

The film will open in theaters on February 12, 2027, following IMAX previews from February 10, and arrive on Netflix on April 2. That unusually long theatrical window gives the creation of Narnia a big-screen debut before it becomes a streaming release. For a story about the birth of a magical world, the scale of that launch feels fitting.
