The Last of Us Season 3

Another Chapter Beyond the Second Season

The Last of Us is returning for a third season in 2027, continuing HBO's adaptation of Naughty Dog's games. The second season did not finish the story it took on, leaving the next run with substantial ground to cover. That makes season three more than a routine renewal: it has to carry forward the consequences and relationships the show has already put in motion.

Is This the End of the Show?

HBO chief Casey Bloys says he thinks showrunner Craig Mazin has planned season three as the final one, but he has not presented that as a firm decision. Mazin previously said a fourth season might be needed to finish the narrative. Those two comments make the shape of the ending worth watching, while leaving the only solid point for now: season three is coming.

The Game World Continues Either Way

Naughty Dog has stepped back from direct involvement in the show's third season, though the studio still stewards the game franchise. Neil Druckmann has said there are other Last of Us projects in the works, separate from whether HBO's version ends here. For viewers, the immediate question is how the series handles the remaining story on screen, and whether one more season gives its characters enough room.
