Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories – Really Helpful Engines

A Fresh Trip Around Sodor

Really Helpful Engines introduces Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories, a new animated series with redesigned characters and a refreshed view of Sodor. The 30-minute special brings Thomas, Percy, and Rosie together with Deepak, a new crane truck, for a music-filled adventure about teamwork and helping others. It is meant as a new starting point for preschool viewers while keeping the railway action and friendships that have defined Thomas for 80 years.

Two Narrators Join the Journey

Henry Golding narrates the English-language version, bringing a personal connection to the role after growing up with the franchise and identifying with the character Henry. Karla Souza narrates in Spanish. Animation comes from Brown Bag Films, the studio behind Doc McStuffins and Octonauts, with veteran children's writer Jill Cozza-Turner serving as supervising head writer. The special's updated designs are grounded in recognizable train details even as the visual style changes.

The First Stop in a Bigger Relaunch

Really Helpful Engines is already available on YouTube and reaches Netflix on September 30. The full Railway Stories series follows in early 2027 across YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and free-to-air channels worldwide. Mattel is pairing the screen relaunch with an Easy Connect toy system using magnetic engines and redesigned track. That makes the special more than a standalone episode: it is the first look at how Thomas will appear across stories and play for a new generation.
