Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Origins 1971-1978

Before the Heartbreakers Became Legends

Origins 1971-1978 digs into the years when Tom Petty and his band were still finding their sound. The box set reaches back to the Mudcrutch period, follows the early Heartbreakers lineup, and brings previously unreleased music into the story. Its arrival also marks the band's 50th anniversary, making this more than a repackaging of familiar hits.

Demos, Live Sets, and the First Two Albums

The collection includes No Sleep Til L.A., a 12-track look at Petty's path from Mudcrutch to the Heartbreakers with seven previously unreleased tracks. It also offers remixed and remastered versions of the band's self-titled debut and You're Gonna Get It!, plus extended versions of songs including "American Girl" and "Breakdown." A complete 1977 Record Plant performance, five solo-era experiments in The Cut Out Bin, and a restored 1978 Old Grey Whistle Test appearance fill out the picture. The unheard 1978 song "Parade of Loons" offers an early preview.

Three Ways Into the Archive

Origins arrives November 6 as a 5-LP set, a 4-CD set, and an Uber Deluxe edition with Blu-ray and DVD. The vinyl edition includes an 88-page fanzine with photographs, memorabilia, and notes from the original band members. The Blu-ray adds high-resolution stereo, Atmos, and 5.1 mixes of all 51 songs. Fans who want a smaller slice can also get No Sleep Til L.A. as a separate release.
