Wild Horse Nine

Two CIA Partners Reach the Edge of 1973

Wild Horse Nine sends longtime CIA operatives Chris and Lee from Santiago to Easter Island on the eve of Chile's 1973 coup. John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play the pair, whose assignment forces them to confront the cost of choices made together over years of covert work.

Easter Island Becomes a Reckoning

Steve Buscemi plays bureau chief MJ, the man who dispatches them away from the capital. On the island, Chris forms a relationship with two rebellious students played by Mariana Di Girolamo and Ailin Salas. Their presence pulls the agents' personal guilt into the larger history of American intervention in South America.

Martin McDonagh Returns to Fractured Men

McDonagh writes and directs, returning to the mix of damaged friendship, moral failure and bleak humor found across his earlier films. Tom Waits and Parker Posey join the ensemble, while longtime collaborator Carter Burwell provides the score.

A Prize-Winning Performance at the Center

Malkovich won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor when the film premiered at Venice, before screenings at Telluride and Toronto. That festival path puts his haunted agent at the center of an awards-season theatrical run rather than treating the historical setting as mere spy-movie scenery.
